JUSTIFICATION OF THE USE OF CALLANETICS FOR OVERWEIGHT PEOPLE
Abstract
Aim. To justify the use of callanetics for overweight people. Materials and methods. The study involved 150 male and female overweight volunteers. The main exclusion criteria were musculoskeletal disorders and moderate-to-severe cardiovascular diseases. People performed callanetic exercises three times a week for 60 minutes during 3 months. Mathematical and statistical processing was performed with Microsoft Excel and Statistica 8 software, respectively. Anthropometric and functional measurements (timed expiratory capacity, Harvard Step Test) were obtained to evaluate the efficacy of the method. Results. In both groups, body mass index and body weight were reduced, the main physiological parameters, including diastolic blood pressure, mean pressure, and pulse pressure in women and systolic blood pressure and mean pressure in men, became normal, and the results of the timed expiratory capacity test and the Harvard step test improved. Conclusion. The results of the study demonstrate that callanetics is recommended for overweight people without severe diseases of the musculoskeletal and cardiovascular systems.
