TOURIST ATTRACTIVENESS OF AZERBAIJANI CANYONS
Abstract
Aim. To provide a description of Azerbaijani canyons in the context of nature tourism and ecotourism. Materials and methods. The study was conducted as an expedition that involved visiting canyons, followed by their description from the perspective of attractiveness for tourists. Results. The study shows that Azerbaijani canyons are different in terms of their relief, natural landscapes, and diversity. The description of natural attractions is the basis for the choice of physical and geographical, geological and geomorphological, as well as psychophysiological, methods for the study of the tourist potential of Azerbaijani canyons. Conclusion. Canyon tourism in Azerbaijan requires basic infrastructure to be created after
a comprehensive study that will provide a foundation for ecological, touristic, and recreational activities among the Azerbaijani population and tourists. This pilot study was the first step to justify the attractiveness of Azerbaijani canyons and their landscapes and provide further evidence for the study of this type of tourism in Azerbaijan.
