Abstract

Aim. This study aimed to develop and test an automated device for assessing the standing forward bend exercise as part of the GTO fitness complex. Materials and methods. The study was conducted at the Research Institute of the Far Eastern State Academy of Physical Education (Khabarovsk, Russia) from January to June 2024. Twenty males and twenty females aged 19–20 years participated in testing the prototype, allowing its effectiveness to be assessed under near-real conditions. Data were analyzed using educational experiments, mathematical statistics, and modeling. Results. During the study, a prototype automated monitoring device for the standing forward bend exercise was developed and constructed. The device was equipped with infrared distance sensors, a data recording unit, and a results visualization system, ensuring high measurement accuracy and eliminating subjectivity in assessment. During testing, design features requiring modification were identified to enhance usability and adapt the device to various anthropometric characteristics of the participants. Conclusion. The use of an automated monitoring device both enhances measurement accuracy for exercise performance assessment and reduces the influence of human factors in the evaluation process, which is particularly important during mass GTO testing. Moreover, the device increases participant motivation by providing objective, real-time feedback. This device can be recommended for integration into GTO testing procedures, as well as for use in sports and rehabilitation medicine.
