Abstract

Aim. To provide a comprehensive analysis of the current status of adult amateur sport in Saint-Petersburg based on the example of rhythmic gymnastics. Materials and methods. The research is based on the analysis of state statistics, normative documents in physical education and sport, including Strategy 2030, and the results of the authors’ research obtained at the Graal Sports Club. Results. The number of organizations in amateur rhythmic gymnastics is increasing, especially among teenagers, as sports clubs provide their services to girls ages 12–16 who started rhythmic gymnastics late or do it as a health-enhancing activity. The key characteristics of amateur rhythmic gymnastics have been identified. It was found that the age of amateur gymnasts ranged from 13 to 37 years. For 53.6 % of gymnasts, the reason for being involved in amateur rhythmic gymnastics was the opportunity to participate in competitions and achieve athletic results. Conclusion. Thanks to the development of amateur sports and rhythmic gymnastics, the share of the population involved in exercise and regular sports activities will increase. According to Strategy 2030, the percentage of young and middle-aged people involved in physical education and sport comprises 83.9 % in the age group from 3 to 29 years and 28.9 % in the age group from 30 to 55 years. For 2030, this value is set at 90 % and 70 %, respectively.
