Abstract

Aim. The present study aims to explore the attitudes of undergraduate students towards various formats of the discipline “Physical Education and Sports” at a technical university. Materials and methods. An anonymous online survey was conducted among first- and second-year TPU students in December 2022 (579 people) and 2023 (871 people). The questions and answer options were formulated in an easy-to-understand manner. Results. Our findings reveal a positive overall perception of the discipline at TPU. Notably, the majority expressed contentment with the intensity and structure of PE classes. Students exhibit sufficient engagement in physical activities, demonstrating ease in performing physical exercise and tasks. Students are satisfied with their area of study, with a mere 4% indicating an intention to change their academic preferences. They lack a desire to increase their physical activity and overcome corresponding challenges. Approximately 5% of students reported a deficiency in the intensity of physical activities, advocating for their increase. Conclusion. The majority of students demonstrate contentment with the volume of activity, yet they have no inclination to increase their workload. Concurrently, it is observed that over a third of students express a preference for discontinuing participation in physical education courses, should they be optional.
