A FRAMEWORK FOR INCORPORATING NATIONAL SPORTS INTO THE PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORTS CURRICULUM AT A TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY
Abstract
Aim. This paper aims to describe the experience of integrating national sports into the physical education (PE) curriculum at Omsk State Technical University (OmSTU). Materials and methods. The study was conducted during the academic year 2022–2023 at OmSTU, involving 230 students across the first to third years of study. The research methodology included scientific and pedagogical approaches such as the analysis of relevant literature, curricula, competition regulations, and reports, along with pedagogical observations and synthesis of results. Results. The article presents the experience of incorporating national sports into the university’s PE activities at various levels, including intrasubject, intramural (extracurricular), and regional levels. Specifically, the disciplines of Lapta and Sambo wrestling were integrated into the PE curriculum, as well as competitive events such as the “Dodgeball” game, “Russian bench press”, and regional competitions like the “Queen of Sports”, “Siberian International Marathon”, “Ski Track of Russia”, etc. Conclusion. The integration of national sports in the PE curriculum, as well as in university mass sporting and physical activity events, serves to enrich and diversify the educational experience. This approach promotes values of a healthy lifestyle among students on a socio-cultural level.
