Abstract

Aim. This investigation seeks to identify the impact of physical education and sports participation on social well-being, specifically through the lens of the perception of students in the Volgograd region. Materials and methods. The study employs a comprehensive approach, incorporating both a review of available literature and the results of original sociological research. An online questionnaire was distributed among university students across the Volgograd region during April and May 2023 (n = 1135, deliberate sampling method). The sample comprised full-time students aged 18 to 26 years. Results. Empirical findings indicate that the majority of respondents are satisfied with their overall health and various life domains. Furthermore, a positive correlation exists between physical education and sports activities and confidence in personal achievement, satisfaction with one’s health, and interpersonal relationships. This indicates a discernible orientation towards physical and social development among the student population. Conclusion. Despite the existing social challenges, physical education and sports play a pivotal role in fostering the social health of young people and contributing to their personal development, self-perception, acquisition of social skills, and overall social stability.
