STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF SHOOTING PERFORMANCE IN ELITE FLOORBALL
Abstract
Aim. This study aims to identify the structure and quantitative characteristics of the Pomor team’s attacking actions during the Russian Floorball Men’s Championship depending on the type of attack. Materials and methods. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the Pomor team’s competitive performance during the 2022/2023 Russian Floorball Men’s Championship. Data were collected from 12 matches against six different opponents: Vetluga, Mininskiy, Nizhegorodets, Sibir, Solnechnye Orly, and Tekhnik. A total of 609 attacking actions were recorded and categorized into six types of attack: positional attack, set piece, fast break or counterattack, power play, penalty kill, and penalty shot. Statistical methods were used for calculating absolute values, per-game averages, and percentages for each type of attack. Results. The study shows that positional attack was dominant (313 actions, 51.4%, 26.08 per match), followed by fast breaks and counterattacks (139 actions, 22.8%, 11.58 per match), demonstrating the team’s relatively fast play and ability to effectively transition from defensive to attacking actions. Set pieces accounted for 17.1% of attacking actions (104 actions, 8.67 per match), demonstrating their consistent presence in the team’s tactical arsenal. Power play occurred in 5.7% of cases (35 actions, 2.92 per game), while penalty kill attacks and penalty shots were the rarest (11 actions, 1.8%, 0.92 per match and 7 actions, 1.2%, 0.58 per match, respectively). The mean number of attacking actions per match was 50.75 ± 10.6, demonstrating variability in team performance depending on the opponent and the characteristics of each match. Conclusion. These findings demonstrate that the team’s tactical model is based primarily on positional attacks with fast-break elements, while special game situations (power play, penalty kill, and penalty shots) occur less often. These quantitative characteristics can serve as a basis for optimizing the training process by focusing on the most frequently used attacking actions while also developing rarely used but potentially effective game elements.
